The Interviews
Phillip Raleigh
Uncle Detective December 2, 1964 Q: Who are the boys in this photograph?
A: The boy on the left is your Grandfather, Phillip Francis Raleigh, born in 1918 and on the right is you Great Uncle, Jack Raleigh, born in 1917. Q: What year was this photograph taken? A: 1927 Q: How old are they in the photograph? What grade are they in? A: Your Grandfather Phillip is about 8 years old and your Great Uncle is about 9 years old. I believe they are in 2nd and 3rd grade. Q: Was there a particular reason they were being photograph? A: This photograph was taken in celebration of their 1st Holy Communion. Q: Where was the photograph taken? A: It was taken at St. Michael's Church located in Jersey City, New Jersey. Q: Was this the first time they were photographed? A: Surprisingly no! The first photograph of them was actually a family photo taken for their passport to go to Ireland in 1925. I have that photograph at my house. I will have to get you a copy so you can check it out yourself and have your own. Q: Did they have any other siblings? A: Yes. Jack and Phillip were actually the middle siblings of the Raleigh clan boys. They had a elder brother, William 'Bill' Raleigh, born in 1915 and they also had a younger brother, Christopher 'Chris' Raleigh, born in 1923. Q: What did their parents do for a living? A: This is actually a pretty cool story. Your Great Grandparents owned a Dairy Farm with cows and everything. All of the stages and processing needed to create the milk was done right on his farm. It was called Mays Dairy. The most intriguing part about all of this is that your Grandparents Dairy Farm was located where the World Trade Center is in New York City, New York. While your Great Grandfather ran the Mays Dairy Farm your Great Grandmother was a stay at home mother to her four boys Willaim, Jack, Phillip and Christopher. Q: When you look at this photograph, what stands out to you? A: I always thought that growing up, I looked more like my father (your Grandfather) Phillip and that your dad looked more like Uncle Jack. Well I mean that's what people always used to say about us. Q: Is there anything else you would like to add? A: Keep up the good work and let me know if you need anything else. Good luck. Love you and hope to see you soon! |
